Obituary

Margaret M. "Molly" Moore, 89, of Elkhart, passed away at Greenleaf Health Campus on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 6:45 p.m. She was born on October 23, 1932 in South Bend to the late Max and Frida (Wagner) Mutzl.

Surviving Margaret are her children Erika L. Moore, Cindy C. Moore and William M. (Jennifer) Moore, all of Elkhart; her brother Richard (Toshie) Mutzl of Elkhart; sisters Claire (Richard) Wagner of Granger and Christiana "Chris" (David) Zilke of Bridgman, Michigan; grandchildren Matthew, Tyler (Jamie), Nicholas (Vicki) and Christopher Moore, Sharon and Emilie Stewart; and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a brother, Herman Mutzl, and by her former husband Billy James Moore, with whom she remained good friends.

In accordance with her wishes, Margaret is to be cremated with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. Her family is planning on having a memorial service at a later date.

Margaret worked many years as an executive secretary. She was proficient in shorthand, a skill she was very proud of.  She was very community oriented and regularly voiced her concerns to local and state legislators as well as the local newspaper. Margaret regularly attended local town hall type meetings to stay informed on issues that were important to her. She was concerned about the environment, supported several environmental groups and helped on local projects.  Margaret had been a volunteer with the Elkhart General Auxiliary, had helped with reading programs at several local schools and had served as a librarian's assistant at Pinewood Elementary School.

Margaret enjoyed watching PBS and had several favorite shows. She loved her time with the Goldenbeats drumming group and performing with them.  She was particularly fond of spending time at her cottage near Lake Michigan and taking walks on the beach.  Her cottage is on property that has been in the family since the 1950's.  Her sisters also have cottages/homes there and Margaret cherished the time she spent there.  She loved being outside and her children would say that it was her love of nature that helped develop their own appreciation for the outdoors. She was an avid walker and enjoyed walking in local parks, especially the Wellfield Gardens, or around her neighborhood.  Margaret enjoyed traveling and had visited New York, Mexico, several western states, and her favorite place of all, Germany.  She was very proud of her German heritage.

Margaret had a quiet faith and found strength in prayer.  She had most recently attended Osceola Grace Church.  She enjoyed watching the Gaither Gospel Hour because it was very uplifting and inspirational.

Memorial donations may be given to the Wellfield Gardens, Elkhart Public Library, PBS, or the charity of your choice.  Friends and relatives are encouraged to leave condolences, memories and/or pictures of Margaret by clicking "Tribute Wall" on her obituary page on the funeral home's website and then following the prompts.
