ELKHART — Marc W. "Free" Freeman 68, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family following an extended illness on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 at 10:45 am.

He was born Aug. 13, 1950 in Ft. Wayne to the late Robert and Marianne (Cook) Freeman. He married Barb Vachon on Dec. 7, 1974 in Ft. Wayne. She is surviving along with children Robyn (Adam) Almasri, Robert (Ashli Scruggs, fiancée) Freeman and Ryan (Jen) Freeman; grandchildren Mia and Jude Freeman and Aidan Almasri. His siblings are his twin Mary (Larry) Aholt, Chris (Rhonda) Freeman, Sally (Neil) Dietz, Sue Moore, Nancy Howell, Patty (Joe) Devine, Theresa Hill, and many loving nieces and nephews survive as well. He is preceded in death by his sister, Roberta Duffy.

The US Army Funeral Honor Guard, Elkhart DAV #19, and Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart are honored to host Marc's celebration of life services with military honors beginning with a viewing on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral will follow on Thursday, Aug. 23 at noon, with visitation an hour prior at 812 Baldwin St.

Marc was an honorably discharged infantryman serving in the US Army before beginning a career with the Elkhart Post Office, which spanned 25 years. He got to know everyone on his

route and always made an extra effort to check in on the elderly. Marc was a kind, considerate,

and fun-loving man who never knew a stranger.

Memorial donations may be given to Heartland Hospice, of which the family wishes to

acknowledge "Nurse Sally" for her loving care in Marc's final days.
