GOSHEN — Salvation Army Major Robert D. "Bob" Reasoner, 73, of Goshen, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, May 15, following an extended illness.
He was born in Elkhart on Oct. 9, 1940, to the late Clyde and Eleanor (Miller) Reasoner.

On Jan. 17, 1964, he married Barbara J. Swart in Minneapolis.
She survives at home after 50 wonderful years of marriage.
Also surviving are his sons, Alan S. (Angela) Reasoner of Round Lake, Ill., and Troy D. Reasoner of Ottumwa, Iowa; his daughter, Nancy L. (James) Grant of Jackson, Wis.; sisters Margaret Reasoner of Goshen and Thelma (Dick) Pattee and Nancy (Ed) McAllister, both of Albertville, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his son, Eric T. Reasoner; sisters Mary Blaisdell and Verla Reasoner; and a brother, Richard Reasoner.
A celebration of Bob's life will take place Saturday, May 17, at the Salvation Army, 300 N. Main St., Elkhart, beginning with a visitation at noon followed by a service at 2 p.m. Major Steven Woodard of the Salvation Army will officiate. In accordance with the family's wishes cremation then will take place followed by burial in Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Bob was a 1958 graduate of Elkhart High School and received his commission within the Salvation Army in 1963, where he remained an officer for the next 37 years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed spending his free time with his family and his grandchildren.
