Lynn L. Kast, 82, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024 after an extended illness at his home.
Lynn L. Kast was born on October 17, 1941 in Bowdle, South Dakota to Leon and Nettie (Spiry) Kast. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Lynn married the love of his life, Sharon K. (Wentz) Kast on March 17, 1967 whom survives.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon; son, Kevin (Lesley) Kast; granddaughter, Morgan; grandson, Kameron; brother, Adrian (Shirley) Kast and several nieces and nephews.
Lynn was raised in Java, South Dakota and graduated from Java High School in 1961. He worked as a truck mechanic for 6 years, at which time he was drafted in the U.S. Army in April of 1967. The first year, Lynn was in the Army on the rifle range and earned the sharpshooter medal award. Lynn was honorably discharged in March 1969 and moved to Elkhart, IN where he worked as a truck mechanic until December 1990 for Kaehr Motor Coach and Lochmandy Motors.
Lynn was a member of Northside Baptist Church for 55 years. He enjoyed Nascar races, basketball and tinkering around with cars. He also enjoyed attending the grandchildren's sporting events.
Visitation for Lynn will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.
A graveside service with full military honors will be at 11:00 am on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Carleton Cemetery, C.R. 4 and Edwardsburg Rd., Elkhart, IN 46514. Pastor Norm Fuller will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army and Elkhart Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Pl, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
