Mrs. Lucinda Ann “Cindy” Evans, 82, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully within the familiar comfort of her daughter’s home on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 11:30 a.m., following an extended illness. Though her family now mourns her absence deeply, they also celebrate a life that was filled with perseverance, laughter, loyalty, and a deep love for the people she held closest to her heart.

Cindy was born in Elkhart on July 13, 1943 to the late Donald and Virginia (Grush) Pendill. She spent her entire life rooted in the Elkhart community she loved so dearly, building lifelong friendships and becoming known as a dependable, hardworking woman who never shied away from doing what needed to be done. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, Phillip P. Evans, who passed away in 2013, as well as her sister, Marla Jane Creal.

Left to cherish Cindy’s memory are her loving children, Kimberly J. “Kim” Evans, Kirt J. Evans, and Keith J. Evans, all of Elkhart; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three favorite nephews who always held a special place in her heart. She will also be lovingly remembered by many extended family members, dear friends, neighbors, and countless former coworkers from Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments.

For nearly fifty years, Cindy devoted herself to her work at Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments in Elkhart. Over the decades, she earned the respect and admiration of those around her through her strong work ethic, determination, and straightforward honesty. Whether serving as a line supervisor or acting as a union steward for Teamsters Local 364, Cindy was never afraid to stand up for others and believed deeply in treating people fairly. She took great pride in her work and in the many friendships she formed throughout the years. To many coworkers, she became more than just a colleague — she became family.

Outside of work, Cindy enjoyed life in simple but meaningful ways. She was an avid bowler for over thirty-five years and spent countless evenings laughing with teammates and friends at bowling alleys throughout the Elkhart area. She loved the excitement of visiting local casinos, where she could often be found enjoying the lights, sounds, and occasional lucky streak. At home, she found peace in crocheting, creating handmade treasures and thoughtful gifts that reflected her caring nature and patient hands.

Cindy was also fiercely loyal to her favorite sports teams. If the Pittsburgh Steelers or Notre Dame were playing, chances were good that she was cheering loudly from her favorite chair, celebrating victories and enduring losses with equal passion. Her family often joked that referees would have performed much better if they had simply listened to Cindy from the living room.

More than anything, however, Cindy treasured her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing brightened her spirit more than visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their laughter filled her home and brought immeasurable joy to her life. She considered herself truly blessed whenever family gathered together, and she never took those moments for granted.

Cindy was also a woman of faith whose quiet Christian values guided the way she lived her life. She believed in kindness, resilience, and taking care of the people she loved. Though she did not seek attention or praise, she left behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

In accordance with Cindy’s wishes and those of her family, cremation will take place with the direction and assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. No formal services will be held. For those wishing to honor Cindy’s memory with a memorial donation, The Elkhart General Hospital Breast Cancer Center was well known to be near and dear to her heart. A twenty year survivor herself, Cindy enjoyed and felt connected when she able to work with other breast cancer survivors.

Though her earthly journey has come to a close, Cindy’s family finds comfort in knowing that her memory will continue to live on in every shared story, every family gathering, every Steelers game, and every precious moment spent together. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
