Obituary

Lucille (Redd) House, 83, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 19, 2022 at Raclin House, Mishawaka, Lucille was born on September 19, 1938 in Huges, Arkansas to the late Jessie and Josephine (Curtis) Redd. In addition to her parents, grandparents who raised her, Alberta & Howard Anderson, twins, Patrick Dale House, Patricia Gayle House, son, Jeff House, granddaughter Amber Wiley, brothers Jessie and Richard Redd, sisters Shirley Piggie, Bertha Mae Redd and Candy Lynn Redd, preceded her in death.

Lucille worked as a seamstress at Boris Smolers for 16 years, she then went to work for Miles (Bayer) Laboratories, on the Alka Seltzer line, retiring in 2000.

Lucille married J D House on May 9, 1953 in Lee Co., Miss. He died March 15, 1977.

To this union, they were blessed with sons, Jacky House, Gayner (Lynn) House, daughters Terry (Raymond) Kraucunas, Charisse (Herman) Wiley; six grandchildren Nickey Murray, Alice (Marc) Waters, Brandon Wiley, Jeff House, Gayner House Jr.; 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Joseph F. (Cynthia) Redd, Vincent Lee Redd; two sisters, Mary Litzlbauer, Ann Gayle Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

Lucille was a longtime member of Canaan Baptist Church, where she sang in choir and served on the CBC church missionary board. She also sang in a gospel group called the Gospelaires. Lucille was an excellent cook, known for her gumbo and especially her chicken noodle soup, requested by many families and friends over the years to cure any ills. She also liked to garden. But her passion was sewing, she was known to sew a dress on Saturday and wear it to church on Sunday.

Friends may call for 2 hours prior to the Noon (12 o'clock) Homegoing service on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Canaan Baptist Church, 933 Fieldhouse Ave. Elkhart. Rev. Dreama Coleman will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of Billings Funeral Home, where Condolences may be made online at www.billingsfuneralhome.com
