ELKHART --Lois Darlene Snyder, 75, of Elkhart, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Elkhart General Hospital, after an extended illness.

She was born June 30, 1935, in Elkhart to the late Ray and Esther (Holderman) Youngblood. She married Robert Charles Snyder on Jan. 4, 1964, in Elkhart. He died on April 20, 2003.

She is survived by daughters Elizabeth Anne Kurtz of Elkhart and Mary Catherine (Michael) Lindley of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren Christopher (Amy) Kurtz of Kansas City, Mo., Matthew Kurtz-Green of Richmond and Eric Lindley of Knoxville, Tenn.; and sister Norma Oliver of Elkhart.

Lois was a longtime employee of GTE, where she worked as a telephone operator, retiring in 1985. She then worked at Walmart on C.R. 6 in the bakery and other departments for 15 years, retiring in 2009. Lois was an avid Concord High School supporter, loved her cat, Smokey Joe, and formerly attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Private time was held for the family. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
