ELKHART — Lois L. Somerville, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Courtyard Healthcare Center in Goshen.
She was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Osceola, to Cleland and Mildred (Breden) Stoddard.
On March 8, 1941, she married Hershel D. Somerville in Mishawaka. He passed away Jan. 12, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Dennis (Elaine) Somerville of Clark, S.D.; two daughters, Brenda (Charles) Niel of Phoenix, Ariz., and Diane (Michael) Zellmer of Blackduck, Minn.; daughter-in-law Mary Somerville of Goshen; brother Lyle (Rose) Stoddard of Buffalo, Okla.; three sisters, Delores Ciesialka of Buffalo, Ruth Bilinski of South Bend and Norma Jean (Gary) Modlin of White Pigeon, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Somerville; three brothers, Daniel Stoddard, Cleland Stoddard Jr. and Raymond Stoddard; and three sisters, Geraldine Walker, Jane Temple and Opal Fleck.
In addition to being a loving housewife, she was owner of Lois's Beauty Salon in Osceola, worked at several companies and was later employed at Goodwill.
The Somervilles started their lives together in Osceola, then later moved to Indianapolis. They spent three years in Washington, then spent 16 years in Arizona before returning to Elkhart.
Lois was a member of Northside Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart and a former member of Maryvale Church of the Nazarene (Phoenix) and Tempe Nazarene Church in Arizona.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Sheets will officiate.
Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
