SOUTH BEND - Lloyd James Smith, Sr., 92, of South Bend, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at The Sanctuary of Holy Cross in South Bend, IN. Lloyd was born on June 1, 1925 in Bunceton, Mo. to Edgar Elmer and Mary Leota Catherine (Gray) Smith. He married Julia Ann Matthews in Chicago on October 10, 1945. She passed away on August 13, 2003 in Naperville, Ill. Lloyd is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Ann (Steven) Smith Burns and Dwylett Tywanna Smith Washington; 3 sons, Lloyd James (Girtha) Smith, Jr., Eric Randell Smith and Lloyd (Tandra) James Smith, III; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 son-in-law, John Murph; 2 sisters, Betty Christian and Sister Marie Martin and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lois Annetta Smith Murph; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Lloyd worked as a butcher in meat packing houses, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, watching Western movies and WWF Wrestling. In accordance with Lloyd's wishes, cremation is to take place with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
