Ms. Linda Lou Kelly, 83, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully within the familiar comforts of her own home with her family at her side on Saturday, July 18, 2026, following an extended illness.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 23, 1943, Linda was the daughter of the late MSG Roy C. Hanson, US Army and Grace Mary (Fairfield) Spencer. She lived a life defined by hard work, fierce independence, unwavering honesty, and a deep love for her family. Though she never sought the spotlight, those fortunate enough to know her understood that beneath her straightforward nature was a generous heart that quietly gave of itself in countless ways.

Linda was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jonathon Kelly; her brothers, Virgil, Russell, and Thomas Roy Hanson; and her sisters, Sally, LaVonne "Aunt Bunny", Virginia and Ruthanne.

She leaves behind a family who will forever treasure the countless memories she helped create, including her daughters, C. Shawn (Floyd) Clements Jr. of Elkhart and Darla D. (Charles) Smith of Granger; her son, Bobby D. (Angela) Kelly of Mishawaka; and her sister, Sonja Tacy of Elkhart. Linda was a proud grandmother to Ana Hernandez, Ashley Mitschelen, Trever Smith, Aaron (Becca) Edwards, Christopher Clements, Jacob Clements, Tyler Clements, Cameron (Mery) Clements, Hannah Clements, Clifton Provo, Jonathon Kelly, Carmella Kelly and MacKenzie Kelly. Her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren: Jaiden DeMetz, Jessie Sizemore, Alexis Mendez, Jonathon Kelly V, Jaxon Kelly, Faith Kelly, Vincent Clements, Scarlett Clements, Henry Spaulding, Tristan and Hunter Edwards. She also leaves behind a loving host of extended family members, dear friends, kind neighbors, and her tiny but unforgettable four-legged companion, "Robin," her faithful 2½-pound Chorkie whose oversized personality kept life entertaining right up to the very end.

For nearly four decades, Linda dedicated herself to the local recreational vehicle industry, where she earned a reputation as a highly skilled cabinet builder. She possessed a remarkable talent for woodworking, taking genuine pride in creating something beautiful and lasting with her own hands. Her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to lend a helping hand earned the respect of coworkers and friends alike.

While Linda worked hard, it was her family who occupied the center of her world. She delighted in gathering everyone around the table, believing that good food had a remarkable way of bringing people together. Her legendary cheesecakes became something of a family tradition, and it seemed that everyone who knew Linda eventually received one. She also enjoyed making cakes, cookies and a variety of homemade desserts, each one prepared with love and shared generously. For Linda, baking wasn't simply about recipes—it was one of the many ways she expressed her affection for the people she loved.

She appreciated life's simple pleasures and found joy in familiar routines. Linda was an avid fan of crime dramas and classic television Westerns, rarely passing up an opportunity to watch John Wayne ride across the screen. She enjoyed listening to the timeless music of Neil Diamond and classic country artists whose songs reminded her of simpler days. She loved browsing mail-order catalogs, always finding something interesting that just might make its way to her doorstep. A gifted reader and thoughtful writer, Linda often turned her emotions into poetry, finding comfort in putting feelings into words.

Family game nights were among her favorite occasions, especially if they included a spirited game of Scrabble. Competitive yet playful, she never shied away from a challenge and always enjoyed the laughter that naturally followed. Linda was also known for speaking her mind with refreshing honesty. No one ever had to wonder where they stood with her, and while her words could be candid, they were almost always rooted in sincerity. She remained unapologetically herself throughout her life—a quality her family admired and loved.

Linda's life was a beautiful reminder that greatness is often found in the ordinary moments: in meals shared around the kitchen table, in desserts baked from scratch, in games played with grandchildren, in honest conversations, and in the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. She leaves behind not only memories but also a lasting example of resilience, generosity, and unconditional love for her family. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

In accordance with Linda's wishes, a simple cremation has taken place under the care and assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
