ELKHART — Lila Irene Monroe, 86, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Elkhart.
She was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Mishawaka to Floyd and Lillian M. (Zartmann) Buck. On Feb. 14, 1948, she married the late Albert Rex Monroe in Elkhart. He passed away May 1, 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Tom) Ward of Monroe, N.C., and Cynthia (Randy) Roethel of Hartford, Mich.; three grandchildren, Tina (Richard) Franks of Elkhart, Lisa Carroll of Monroe and Tim (Randi) Edison of Kernersville, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.
Lila was employed at CTS for more than 23 years and later worked for Rex Auto Sales as a driver for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, shopping and metal detecting. Lila was a gifted journalist and previously had articles published in the New York Times.
Graveside services will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at California Road Missionary Church Cemetery, 29765 C.R. 12, Elkhart. Pastor Bud Walterhouse will officiate.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is entrusted with arrangements.
