ELKHART — Leta Hixon White, 86, of Elkhart, passed away at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, from natural causes at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Elkhart to the late John and Zella (Irick) Hixon.
Also preceding her in death were her husbands, B. Herbert White, who died in 1993, and Alonzo C. White, who died in 2010, as well as brothers Jack and Richard Hixon and sisters Eva Troyer and Hazel Clipp.
Surviving are her daughter, Anita G. (Roger) Rains of Elkhart; granddaughters Rhonda (Ivan) Leith of Troutdale, Ore., and Heather (Robert Savage) Rains of South Bend; and great-grandsons Justis and Logan Savage of South Bend.
Leta was a draftsperson and technical illustrator working for several area businesses such as Bendix, McCord's, Torrington and Wheelhorse. She also served as worthy matron for the Plymouth chapter of OES and president of Business and Professional Women of Plymouth, as well as being active in Toastmasters. She enjoyed travelling throughout the United States with her husband, Lon. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, graduated from Elkhart High School in 1942, and always liked a good story.
In accordance to her wishes, Leta has been cremated and a memorial celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, in the chapel at Hubbard Hill Estates, 28070 C.R. 24 W., Elkhart. Pastor Richard "Dick" Matteson will officiate. Entombment of her remains will follow the services at 2:45 p.m. at the Veteran's Towers at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Memorial donations may go to the Hubbard Hill Estates Angel Garden.
