Leora May McDaniel, the sweetest, kindest person, you would ever like to meet passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Avalon Village in Ligonier, IN. She was born in Fairmont, WV, on October 26, 1938, a daughter of the late Carl Samuel Vandegrift and Lovanda May (Brockover) Vandegrift.

She is survived by a son, Darrel (Tammy) McDaniel, and a daughter, Vicky (David) Shaw. Her first-born daughter, Cheryl McDaniel, preceded her in death on May 25, 2024.

Leora graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1957. She married Guy Carl McDaniel on September 10, 1960. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1969. She attended Hebron Baptist Church and was very active in the American Baptist Women's Association.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Chelsea (Kyle) Witmer, Jordan (Jenny) Shaw, and Courtney McDaniel, and great-grandchildren, Addison, Khloe, Wyatt, and Claire Witmer. One great grandchild, Gabe Witmer, preceded her in death.

Also surviving, her siblings, Delores Fox, Sue Funk, Charles Vandegrift, and Barbara Sattorfield. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Vandegrift, and Sonny Vandegrift.

Graveside Services for Leora will be held at Woodsdale Memorial Park in the Spring of 2025 in Fairmont, West Virginia.

Local arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hebron Baptist Church or Mason Twp Baptist Church.
