ELKHART — Leo Harris, 80, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.
He was born March 9, 1932, in Edmonson, Ark., to Albertson and Easter (Smith) Harris. On Aug. 30, 1975, he married Sally E. (Warren) Harris. She survives at home.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert Lee (Anne) Harris of South Bend and Eric Duane (Laurie) Pepple of Elkhart; three daughters, Patricia Ann Harris of St. Louis, Renee Lucas of Indianapolis and Angela Jane (Harrell) Barnett of Houston; brother the Rev. Lewis Lee (Bea) Harris of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Reola Fason and Dorothy Jean Johnson, both of Memphis; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
Leo was employed at Dometic for more than 14 years and was also employed at Oaklawn in Elkhart for many years. Leo was a friend of Bill W. for more than 35 years. He enjoyed spending time fishing, woodworking, gardening, playing cards with his friends and attending meetings.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the noon funeral service on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at St. James AME Church, 122 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, Elkhart. The Rev. George Bostic Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in South Bend.
