ELKHART -- Lavergne C. Sumner, 89, of Elkhart, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Valley View Health Care Center in Elkhart.
She was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Chicago to Carl and Rose (Youwer) Johnson. She married Raymond J. Sumner on June 12, 1942, in Chicago. He died Oct. 25, 1982, in Hammond.
Surviving are four grandchildren and her caregiver Nancy (Paul) Mauer of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Newton Sumner, and a sister, Ethel Pearl Cunningham.
All services will be private. Burial will take place in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home
