ELKHART- Larry James Linn, 78, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Greenleaf Health Campus in Elkhart. He was born August 15, 1937 in Elkhart to John and Esther (Dunmire) Linn.
On September 22, 1962, he married Lynn Higbie, who survives along with son, Dr. Michael Linn of Madison, WI, a sister, Doris Rody and a nephew, John (Carol) Rody, both of Elkhart.
He and Lynn were married at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elkhart and were members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
Larry was a 1956 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended the School of Forestry at Purdue University.
He trained as a medic in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, TX and was honorably discharged in 1966.
He was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Elkhart for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He then worked for Borneman Industrial Supply and Elkhart Community Bank.
Larry was a leader of the Boy Scouts of America for a Boy Scout Troop at St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Hillcrest United Methodist Church for many years.
He was a pitcher for several fast-pitch softball leagues at Riverview Park until he was 50 years old.
Larry was a life member of Elkhart Elks Lodge 425 and Christiana Creek Country Club.
He loved to work in his garden and took great pleasure in sharing his vegetables with family and friends. He tested roses for Jackson Perkins. He enjoyed attending the Notre Dame Women's Basketball games and watching the Chicago Cubs Baseball team. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother and a friend to many.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the 11:00 AM celebration of life service on Saturday, May 14th at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Tim Burchill and Pastor Ronald Bowman will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church for Youth Fellowship Activities, the Boy Scouts of America Troop 1 at Trinity United Methodist Church or the Council on Aging.
