He was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Lacota, Mich., to Walter T. and Edith (Mann) Jones. He married Ruth L. Gordon on Aug. 29, 1941, in Goshen.
She survives along with one son, Stephen D. Jones of Elkhart; two daughters, Diana S. (Stephen) Smith of Ocala, Fla., and Sara J. Kasprzak of Elkhart; six grandchildren, Bob (Carol) Jones of Germantown, Md., Mark (Stacy) Jones of Goshen, Michael Flickinger and Heather Kasprzak, both of Elkhart, Troy Flickinger of Granger and Jason Kasprzak of Brownsburg, Ind.; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Ann Flickinger; two sisters, Loma Carlberg and Dorothy Strukel; and three brothers, Donald, Paul and Ernest Jones.
Friends may call two hours prior to the 7 p.m. Thursday memorial service at New Hope United Methodist Church, 28765 C.R. 4, Elkhart. The Rev. Lee Campbell will officiate. Cremation will take place. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of handling arrangements.
Mr. Jones started Modern Cabinet (now Modern Kitchens) in 1950. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. Mr. Jones was a man with a good sense of humor, who always had a smile on his face and enjoyed spending time with his family at a cottage on Shavehead Lake.
