BRISTOL -- LaMar Glen Zimmerman Jr., 85, of Bristol, died at 5 p.m. Monday (Feb. 9, 2009) in Golden Living Center.

He was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Elkhart to Lamar G. Sr. and Marie (Ball) Zimmerman. On June 27, 1944, he married Ruby Mae Kreischer in Elkhart.

She survives along with three daughters, Sandra "Sandy" Bickel and Deborah "Deb" (Roger) McCloud, both of Indianapolis, and Susan (John) Woodhull of South Haven, Mich.; one son, Thomas "Tom" (Mary) Zimmerman of Shelby Township, Mich.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Zimmerman of Union, Mich., and Donald (Sandy) Zimmerman of Elkhart.

A lifelong resident of the Elkhart area and a graduate of Elkhart High School, Mr. Zimmerman was the owner and operator of Zimmerman Service Inc. on Main Street in Elkhart from 1947 until 1992. He was a member of the TV Bureau of Elkhart County, the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and the Zion Lutheran Church of Bristol.

He was an avid golfer (with two holes-in-one) and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 318th Signal Service Battalion in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a radio communications technician in Okinawa. He received the Bronze Star.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Friday's 11 a.m. funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church, at C.R. 6 and C.R. 19, Bristol. The Rev. Karen Strietelmeier will officiate. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery, Bristol. Military graveside honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard.
