L. Douglas Coffman, 80, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Doug was born on March 10, 1941 to the late Robert "Joe" Coffman and Birdie Lee (Hardy) Coffman in Athens, AL. He is married to the love of his life, Janice (Champion) Coffman on December 28, 1963 in Cassopolis, MI.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and a sister.
Doug is survived by his wife of 58 wonderful years, Jan Coffman of Elkhart; sons, D.. Allen Coffman (Barney Swayze) and Vic (Vicki) Coffman, all of Elkhart; grandchildren, Aleshia (JR) Robinson, Ashley (Isaac) Miner and Dustin (Bridget) Klaus; great grandchildren, Alexas, Katya, Alera and Colt; sisters, JoAnne Yocum, Pamela Keaton and Kathy Yocum; and many nieces and nephews.
Doug moved from Alabama to Indiana in 1956. He was an electrician at various, local R.V. manufacturers in Elkhart throughout the years. Doug and his wife, Janice were co-owners of Valley Line Stop Restaurant on C.R. 17 in Elkhart. Doug and his father-in-law, Vic enjoyed fishing in their younger days. He would also occasionally drive around the Amish in his spare time.
Doug enjoyed going to local classic car shows and even owned a 1994 Corvette, 1973 Chevy Nova and a 1953 Ford. Doug enjoyed going to the lake and camp with his family at Foxwood Hills in Middlebury every summer. He could be found working on his cars and tinkering in the garage in his spare time. He was very handy especially when it came to motors. Doug was very social and never met a stranger. Most of all, he loved his family and will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service for Doug will be held at 5:00pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart with visitation 2 hours prior from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the funeral home. Pastor Michael Pennington will officiate. Burial and Service will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Fremont, IN on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 12:00pm.
