ELKHART — Kimiko DeFreese, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, July 16, at Greenleaf Health Campus in Elkhart.
She was born June 5, 1927, in Yokosuka, Japan, to Iwajiro and Ai Fukumoto.

Survivors include her son, Kerey (Julie) DeFreese of Bristol; two grandsons, Kaleb and Jacob DeFreese, both of Bristol; and one sister, Shizuka of Yokosuka.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. DeFreese, three brothers and two sisters.
Kimiko attended college in Japan and worked as a registered nurse and later worked for MCL Cafeteria for several years after moving to the U.S. She was a member of the Japanese American Club in Elkhart.
The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the noon Monday, July 21, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor David Klahr will officiate. Interment will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery.
