ELKHART -- Kenneth A. Hoeksema, 82, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.
He was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Mich. On Nov. 15, 1952, he married Barbara Jane (Simons) Hoeksema in Elkhart. She preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1998.
Survivors include his son, Terry L. (Sylvia) Hoeksema; two step-grandchildren, Shameka Null and Raymon S. Maldonado; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Kennedy T. Null and Madison N. Null, all of Elkhart.
Kenneth served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a railroad car inspector for more than 33 years. Kenneth enjoyed spending time fishing, bowling, doing yard work and taking care of his beloved pets.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 2 p.m. memorial service Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate.
Kenneth's cremated remains will be buried at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
