Ken Walter Sloat, 69, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 at his home.

Ken was born on April 16, 1957 in Elizabethtown, PA.

Ken is survived by his children, Sabastian Sloat and Alexandria Sloat; mother of his children, Jessica Ernest; several brothers and sisters; close friends like brothers, Stephen Stott and Mark Wesner.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Ken developed a lifelong love for history and country early on. Following his formative years, he answered the call to serve his nation by enlisting in the United States Army. Ken served as a paratrooper in the Special Forces, earning the rank of sergeant first class and the distinct honor of wearing the Green Beret. His time in the military shaped his character, instilling a deep intelligence and trademark toughness that he carried throughout his life.

After completing his military service, Ken settled in the Michiana area and transitioned to a successful career as an over-the-road truck driver. He took immense pride in his work and his Volvo semi-truck, successfully traveling through 48 of the 50 United States. Ken’s passion for exploration extended far beyond his career; he loved traveling the world, with the historic battlefields of Gettysburg remaining one of his absolute favorite destinations.

In his free time, Ken enjoyed intellectual challenges and quiet strategy, always welcoming a competitive game of chess. He was also an avid enthusiast of classic cars and an insatiable history buff.

Ken will be remembered by those who knew him as a man of strength, honor, and deep conviction.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Jeremy Sarber officiating. Elkhart Honor Guard and Indiana Patriot Guard will perform a pass and review before the start of the service.

Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the start of the service from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the funeral home.

Private burial with full military honors will be held at Marion National Cemetery.
