Kathy A.
Smith
November 26, 1963 – April 30, 2026
Kathy Ann Smith, 62, of Elkhart, was born on November 26, 1963, to the late George Franklin McNeal and Janet Ann Linton, who survives her. Kathy also had two brothers, Tim (Robin) Linton and Jeff (Erin) Bowers [Jeff precedes Kathy in death] and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She was known by many names—Grandma, Momma, Mrs. Smith, Sister, Friend, Daughter.
She had two children of her own, Mandi (Andrew Langham) Null and Corey Barber, but life gave her the chance to be Momma to many others: Brian (Lindsey) Smith, Cody (Madison) Smith, Eric (Brittany Barrera) Smith, and Stacy (Jonathan) Edwards.
She married the love of her life, Mike Smith, on April 1, 2014. They were two crazy fools in love. She found adventures around every turn with Mike, their children, and 16 grandchildren. Her grandchildren meant the entire world to her.
Kathy had the biggest heart, which she shared with everyone she met. She worked hard, played hard, and loved harder. Kathy dazzled the world with her karaoke songs, motorcycle riding, and beautiful home and yard décor. She supported you, thought about you, and made you felt seen. Her shining and fun soul was infectious.
Kathy loved her dogs, Cooper and Shelby, traveling, sunflowers, kayaking, campfires, and her Momma. She was smart, fun, silly, and beautifully wild. Kathy made a difference in this world. She was the kind of woman who faced life’s challenges and said, “Watch me make the most of it.” And she did.
She leaves behind wonderful memories that her loved ones will laugh about forever. She will be loved and remembered in every moment her friends and family shared with her. She was a firecracker who lit up our lives. A strong, capable woman and a rock for her people. Kathy was rare and will be missed forever.
In accordance with Kathy’s wishes, cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. A private family celebration of life service will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or Heart to Heart Hospice.
