Obituary
ELKHART — Kathy S. Packer, 57, of Elkhart, passed away early Monday morning Aug. 18, at Elkhart General Hospital.
Kathy was born April 29, 1957, in Goshen to the late Robert K. Packer and Marian R. (Huitema) Hannah.
Surviving are a brother, Steven R. (Denise) Packer of Columbus; a stepbrother, James D. (Nancy) Hannah of Elkhart; a niece; two nephews; and two step-nephews.
Kathy was a 1975 graduate of Elkhart Central High School. She received degrees in fashion design and merchandising from the American College of Lucerne in Switzerland in 1978, and the American College of Applied Arts in London in England in 1979. She later attended Southwestern Michigan College of Nursing, graduating with a degree in nursing, and received her license to practice as a registered nurse from the Indiana State Board of Nursing in 1988.
She worked at Elkhart General Hospital and area nursing homes. Kathy loved animals and enjoyed spending time with her cats. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking part in theatrical productions at the Bristol Playhouse. For many years, Kathy liked singing with her mother in church choirs and especially enjoyed the singing and fellowship of the Elkhart County Community Chorus in most recent years.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
