Katherine B. Shetler, 97, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Greenleaf Health Campus.

Katherine was born on August 10, 1924, to the late, Henry and Katherine (Birkey) Steider in Strang, Nebraska. She was married to the late, Merle G. Shetler on February 10, 1946 in Stickley, Nebraska. He passed away on October 25, 2015.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Merle; parents, Henry and Katherine; grandson, Andrew Smith and 10 brothers and sisters.

Katherine is survived by her children, Stanley (Carolyn) Shetler of Goshen, Charles (Elizabeth) Shetler of Bedford, IN, James (Laurinda) Shetler of Merida, MX, Janet (Michael) Ress of Elkhart, Theresa (Edward) Foy of Elkhart and Mary (Christopher) Smith of Fayetteville, GA; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and the two boys, Matt and Joseph that she baby sat for 10 years.

Katherine was a member of Little Pine Church of the Brethren in Goshen. She was a custodian for a number of years as well as a stay-at-home mom and babysitter. She was an avid reader who also loved to color. Katherine enjoyed gardening, baking and quilting. She had a sharp mind, big heart and was a social butterfly especially at Greenleaf. She will be missed dearly.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Katherine's life will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN with Pastor Andrew Brown officiating.

A private burial will be at Little Pine Cemetery in Goshen, IN.
