ELKHART — Karen Sue Shafer, 61, of Elkhart, passed away at home Friday, Nov. 28, following a courageous lifelong battle with Huntington's disease.
She was born in Elkhart on April 29, 1953, to Donald E. Schalliol and Joanne (Griggs) Schalliol Schneider.
Survivors include her mother, Joanne of Elkhart; her lifelong companion of over 25 years, Richard "Dick" Weesner; her daughters, Cameron (Phil) Howard of Elkhart, Michelle (Steven) McCauley of Franklin, Texas, and Sirhonda Jackson of Constantine, Mich.; her sister, Sharon (Tom) Whitehead of Elkhart; her brothers, Billy Joe and Daniel (Brenda) Schalliol, both of Elkhart; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Currently, no services have been scheduled. Karen is to be cremated according to her wishes.
Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Karen was a lifelong laborer in the local RV industry until her health issues required her early retirement. She was an avid animal lover.
