ELKHART —  Karen Kay Phillips, 62, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at her home. Karen was born on July 21, 1955 in Jackson, Michigan to Wilbur and Lottie (Balawender) Ellis. She married Franklin Dee "Frankie" Phillips on October 21, 1972. He died August 7, 2015 after 42 years of marriage. Surviving are her children; Dreama (Mark Wortinger) Phillips, Ginger Phillips and Frankie Phillips; three grandchildren, Keith (Mallory) Powell, Destiny and Savannah Phillips; 2 great grandchildren, Oaklee and Leeum Powell; 2 sisters, Nancy Clark, Theresa Duncan and a brother John (Debbie) Ellis and mother-in-law Etherial S. "Buzz" Phillips. Karen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frankie, sister Debra Spratt and brother Gary Ellis. Karen was a homemaker and caretaker, her family was everything to her. She formerly worked at Signature Lanes and worked part-time at Nelson Golden Glow. Karen's life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Billings Funeral Home on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 6:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 3:00 PM. Pastor Davis "Jimmy" Webster will officiate. Cremation has taken place; she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
