Oct. 22, 1924 - March 28, 2014
ELKHART — Julia Black, 89, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, March 28, a t the home of her daughter, Barbara, while wintering in Lehigh Acres, Fla.

Julia was born in South Bend on Oct. 22, 1924, to John and Julia (Kaman) Kovatch.

On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Harold C. Black in Fort Wayne. Harold passed away on July 28, 2009.

Surviving are a son, Timothy Black of Elkhart; two daughters, Jill Black of Bloomington and Barbara (Curtis) Hull of Lehigh Acres; six grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Kovatch of Mishawaka; and her sister, Gloria Kovatch of Elkhart.

In addition to her parents and husband, brothers John Kovatch, Andrew Kovatch and sister Mary Grimm preceded Julia in death.

Julia was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a seamstress for many years at Camelot, then Lux Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Julia enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery work, canning and gardening. She helped the war effort in World War II by working as a machinist.

Funeral services for Julia will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, with the Rev. Glenn Kohrman officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Julia's memory.
