ELKHART — Judith A. "Judy" Kander, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, July 28, at Elkhart Hospice House surrounded by her family.
She was born April 24, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Meril W. and Arnetta H. (Johnson) DeVault.
On Nov. 14, 1970, she married her husband of almost 45 years, Phil Kander. He survives at home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mary (Scott) Nehring of Belmont, N.C., and Kimberly (Casey) Clopton of Elkhart; one sister, Joyce (Mike) Harshman of Oregon, Ohio; two brothers, Dan (Sue) DeVault of Columbus, Ohio, and Bill (Vera) DeVault of Toledo; one sister-in-law, Connie DeVault of Loudon, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dave DeVault.
Judy was employed at the Elkhart Clinic for more than 35 years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and spent many years teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
Two of her greatest joys in life were spending time at her church and being with her five grandchildren, Keaonna, Matt, Grace, Jackson and Jolie.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Robert G. Schallhorn Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
