Juanita June
(Forrest) Stout
October 3, 1928 – May 3, 2024
Juanita June (Forrest) Stout, aged 95, passed away peacefully on May 3 at Creekside Village Nursing Home in Mishawaka. She was born on October 3, 1928 in Elkhart to the late Bessie (Pippenger) Forrest Dobbyns and Edwin Forrest. Juanita was previously married to Donald Johnson from 1948-1961 and later married Earl Stout on May 29, 1970, who preceded her in death on December 12, 2006.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Justice; son, Gene (Kim) Johnson; grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Strope, Kyle (Jennifer) Johnson, Duke (Brittney) Johnson, and Ali Johnson; great-grandchildren, Logan and Ashlynn Hooper, Morgan Strope, Deloy, Milam, Jett, and Reeve Johnson; sister, Betty Fuller; sister-in-law, Marcie Forrest, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Frederick Forrest, Ed (Marigrace) Forrest, Jack Forrest, Chuck (Doris) Forrest, Leo (Mary) Forrest, Winnie (Verlin) Dorrier; brother-in-law Paul Fuller; niece, Peggy Presser; nephews, Jim Forrest and Terry Voogd.
Juanita graduated from Concord High School in 1946. She was an outgoing, selfless, and loving woman who never met a stranger. She worked for many years as a waitress. Also, she worked at Baugo Community Schools, Williams Products, and Martins Supermarket before retiring. She cherished her family and friends and enjoyed dancing, trips with siblings and spouses, especially to Las Vegas; playing cards; family gatherings; and yearly family trips to the lake. Music, including Big Band sound, was a passion for her, coming from a family of musicians, and she valued traditions like the annual Forrest Christmas Eve celebration. She enjoyed shopping and going to dinner with her daughter and friends.
She was very involved in supporting all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities and sporting events. She enjoyed hosting birthday parties for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandma was always there to listen, and, at times, would say laughing "I'm going to chew your ears off". She impacted their lives in so many ways and will always be loved.
Juanita was a dedicated fan of the "Jimtown Jimmies". Juanita loved attending boys' and girls' basketball games and would sit on the front row with her daughter, grandchildren, and other family members. Not only was Juanita her son's and grandchildren's loudest cheerleader but also vocally supported the other Jimtown team members for years.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Creekside Village for their friendship and outstanding care of Juanita for the past 3 years. Also, to the Center for Hospice Care for their comfort care, and support over the past 2 weeks.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 9 from 11 am to 1 pm at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, in Elkhart, followed by a memorial service. Juanita was a long-time member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Pastor Keith McFarren will officiate the service.
