IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joshua "Josh"
David Nord
September 11, 1984 – June 1, 2023
Mr. Joshua David "Josh" Nord, 38, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday evening, June 1, 2023, following a sudden and unwarned heart attack. He was born in Elkhart on September 11, 1984 to the late Gerald Lee Nord and surviving Mary L. (Herman) Nord. Josh had always proudly and faithfully lived his life according to the Bible.
Josh is survived by his sweet wife Amanda Elisabeth (Hendershot), whom he married on June 4, 2005 in Elkhart. They have two beautiful children; Elijah Broc and Alixandria Isabella Nord, both of whom reside at home. Josh is also survived by his mother, Mary Nord, and his two brothers; Eric M. Nord of Elkhart and Christopher (Mandy) Nord of Palm Bay, Florida. Josh and Amanda were members and part of the pastoral staff of Elkhart Life Church, therefore the sting of Josh's loss has been felt throughout his church family as well. Finally, Josh is survived by a host of loving extended family, friends, work associates and the family's feline friend "Taco Cat", which, if you check, is a palindrome and a tribute to Josh and Amanda's mutual nerdiness.
Josh's Elkhart Life Church family will be hosting his homegoing celebration on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the church (1135 Middlebury Street, Elkhart). The viewing will be held from 4-7PM, with the service following at 7PM. Pastor Mark Johnson and his beloved wife Marci will officiate and host Josh's service as his family, church family and personal friends gather to bid farewell to an awesome husband, dad, son, friend, minister, faithful Christian and (deep down inside) fearsome Viking.
At the time of Josh's passing, he was employed as a mechanical engineer and manager at CMM of South Bend, where he designed routers, and programmed machines. CMM and staff have acted as family in so many ways throughout his 17 years of employment and he was looking forward to helping the company thrive continually. At Elkhart Life Church, Josh and Amanda served together as new member coordinators, and AV technicians. Josh also served as a teaching pastor, church board member, assistant youth pastor and all-around fix it guy. He always claimed he was a founding member of the church as well, because Mary gave birth to him shortly after the new church was acquired on Middlebury Street. His huge smile and nerdy sense of humor endeared him to all, and his natural quirkiness made him approachable and real.
Josh was the perfect mix of intelligence, love, devotion and understanding with just enough snarkiness, silliness and tomfoolery sprinkled in to keep things interesting. He was a very, very strong advocate for family values, and Josh lived his life for his wife and kids. When out, they were nearly always spotted together because they did almost everything as a family. He was an avid camper, and hiker, and loved to explore nature together with his family. He played Ultimate Frisbee as part of the GUSL league and loved every minute of it. He also loved to read, play Minecraft with his kids, play board games and obsess about the fact that he was born with Nordic blood in his veins and always secretly wanted to live the life of a Viking.
Friends and family may leave memories, condolences and pictures on Josh's obit page on the Billings Funeral Home website. Memorials may be given in his name to Elkhart Life Church. Thank you for your interest in his life story!
