KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Joretta I. (Stafford) Appleyard, 84, of Kalamazoo, Mich., formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Friday, June 19, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Joretta was born May 9, 1931, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Martin and Rosa (Miller) Dryer.
She retired from Miles (Bayer) Laboratories. She was united in marriage to Thomas O. Stafford, who preceded her in death Dec. 23, 1984.
On Oct. 12, 1996, Joretta was united in marriage to Richard S. Appleyard, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bill (Tracey) Stafford of Elkhart, Jim (Theresa) Stafford of Goshen, Ind.; daughter Rose Decker of Elkhart; stepson Scott (Jamie) Appleyard of Kalamazoo; two stepdaughters, Kathy (Ray) Spaulding of Kalamazoo and Sherri (Jeff) Gagnon of Dowling; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 23, at Crossroads Community Church North Campus, 3322 Middlebury St., Elkhart. Pastor Alan Cassel and Pastor Tim Fisher will officiate. Private family interment will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.
