Aug. 18, 1946 - July 29, 2011

ELKHART -- Jon M. Hicks, 64, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, as a result of a fire at his residence.

Jon was born Aug. 18, 1946, to Jay and Jean (Fischer) Hicks in Marion.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy McCreary of Elkhart; mother Jean Hicks of Elkhart; three sisters, Suzann Marquis of Elkhart, Rebecca Price of Elkhart and Vicky Hicks of Edwardsburg, Mich.; brother Tim (Sharon) Hicks of Elkhart; and two grandchildren, Breanne and Preston, both of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Jon was a 1966 graduate of Elkhart High School. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Jon was employed as an electrician with The Belt Railway Company for nearly 30 years prior to his retirement in 2002. Jon enjoyed traveling to Amsterdam and New Orleans. He loved to spend time gardening at home.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at the DAV 19, 1205 Middleton Run Road, Elkhart, IN 46517.

Memorial contributions may be made to the DAV 19. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
