ELKHART — Johnny Brown, 62, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, at Elkhart General Hospital from an apparent cardiac arrest.
He was born in Mattson, Miss., Sept. 9, 1954, to Richard and Martha Brown.
He is survived by his children, Johnny Brown Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Michelle Brown of Elkhart and Donald (Jassica) Brown of Goshen; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; former wife Josephine Lee Brown of Elkhart; siblings, Dorothy (Percy) Morton, Mary Sheppard, Pearly (Terry) Nelson, all of Elkhart, Martha Payton of Fort Wayne, Bessie Porter of Mishawaka, Ruby Redman of Indianapolis, Willa Mae Williams of Chicago, Leon Brown of Minnesota and James Henry Brown of Tennessee.
Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Sr. and Martha Aretha Brown, a son, Ralph Huckleberry and two brothers, Richard Brown Jr. and Roosevelt Brown.
Johnny worked as a skilled craftsman at American Millwork Corp. in Elkhart for many years.
His work ethic, new ideas and attention to detail, earned him the respect and admiration of the company owners and workers.
Johnny was a super fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he also liked the Philadelphia 76ers.
He loved westerns, sports and listening to his Blues music.
Services will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 21, at Canaan Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior.
The Rev. McNeal Stewart will officiate.
Entombment will follow in the Memories Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery.
