MIDDLEBURY -- Johnathon E. "Jo-Mo" Mochamer, 28, of Middlebury, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at the Hospice House of Elkhart after a lifelong battle with brain tumors.
He was born in Elkhart on May 9, 1983, to John R. and Randi M. (Ward) Mochamer. In 1986, Johnathon was diagnosed with his first brain tumor. Despite his disability, Johnathon was an active member of ADEC's "Power for Independence," the Kiwanis' "Aktion" Club and was a lifelong member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer of Elkhart, as well as a graduate of Concord High School. He was employed at ADEC Industries.
Johnathon was also an accomplished Special Olympian who competed at local and state levels. His participation included bowling, track and basketball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks fan and also enjoyed Notre Dame football and the Indianapolis Colts.
Along with his parents, survivors include his brother, Jacob K. "Jake" Mochamer, grandparents Bessie Mochamer and Don (Jimmie Sue) Queener, all of Elkhart, 22 aunts and uncles and more than 50 cousins, all of whom Johnathon loved dearly.
Also left to cherish his memory is his extended family, including his sweetheart, Cassie Johnson of Middlebury; his hospice caregiver, Brittany Hallman of Mishawaka; and his housemates Matthew I., Nathan G., Dan A., Steve F., Nathan I., William K. and Matthew T., all of Middlebury.
Preceding Johnathon in death were his grandfathers, Randall Ward and Robert Mochamer, as well as his great-grandparents.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 12, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 3300 Benham Ave., Elkhart, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow services in Violett Cemetery in Goshen. Pastor Andrea Hickey of the church and Johnathon's uncle, Pastor James Ward of New Hope Lutheran Church in Monticello, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Concord Junior High School Make A Wish Foundation or ADEC.
