John V. Scott, 79 of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at his home following an extended illness on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017.

John was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Elkhart to the late Vernon and Myrna (Schuman) Scott.

Surviving are children Mark Scott of Elkhart, Matthew (Carolyn) and Jon (Sarah) Scott, as well as Lori Johnson, all of Lafayette, LA; 3 grand and 3 great grandchildren; neighbors and longtime friends Mike & Dee Slessman of Elkhart, and former spouse Janice Scott from Lafayette, LA. 2 sisters precede him in death.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services and cremation will take place. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is assisting the family with arrangements.

John served 25 years with the US Navy and two tours in Vietnam as a Search & Rescue helicopter pilot. After the military, John went on to become a rig surveyor for off-shore oil drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping
