ELKHART — John Kenneth Tierney Sr., 78, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, March 4, at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born June 14, 1935, in South Bend to Frank and Helen (Conway) Tierney.

Survivors include his wife, Angeline "Angie" Tierney of Elkhart; two sons, John Tierney Jr. and Jody Tierney, both of Elkhart; two sisters, Pam (Mike) Shelton of South Bend and Beverly Gaume of Florida; and his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Jimmy and Billy Tierney, and one sister, Shirley Crimaldi.

John served in the U.S. Army from May 1956 until April 1958. He worked at XL Industries and prior to his retirement worked as manager of the Village Inn Restaurant for many years.

He was a former member of the American Legion and member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 599 and DAV Chapter 19.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, and for an hour prior to the noon Tuesday, March 11, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Dave Lade will officiate. Interment will follow in Carleton Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and DAV Chapter 19.
