EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- John William Taylor, 78, of 19884 N. Leonard Court died at 7:59 a.m. Friday (July 6, 2007) at home after a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Corinth, Miss., to William E. Taylor and Lola May Palmer. He married Mary Frances Bivens on Sept. 19, 1954, in Corinth.

She survives, along with two daughters, Pamela S. Taylor-Futrell of Edwardsburg and Lisa A. (Vincent) Sharpe of Meadview, Ariz.; four brothers, Billy (Violet) Taylor of Corinth, Larry (Mindy) Taylor of Memphis, Tenn., Bobby (Mildred) Taylor of Onsett, Mass., and Roy (Dorothy) Taylor of Oneida, Ky.; four granddaughters; five great-grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a stepgreat-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Duward and Jimmie Taylor; and three sisters, Mary Ellen Hooper, Dorothy McVay and Louise Smith.

Visitation is set for Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where funeral services are set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rick Pirtle of Riverview General Baptist Church in Elkhart officiating. Burial will follow at the Adamsville Cemetery in Adamsville, Mich., with military graveside honors.

Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an employee of Federal Paperboard for more than 32 years until it closed in the early 1990s.

He was a Green Bay Packers and University of Michigan football fan who loved to make large batches of popcorn to share with his grandchildren when a game was on TV. He also loved old Westerns, tending to his vegetable garden, helping others and spending time with his family.
