ELKHART — John A. Stahl Sr., 79, of Elkhart, was called to eternal paradise at Elkhart General Hospital on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1937, in Elkhart, to George and Helen (Toth) Stahl.
On May 9, 1959, he married Jean Bussard of Elkhart. She passed away in 1981.
John is survived by his children, all of Elkhart, Selina Leon, John (Yolanda) Stahl and Laura (Leanne) Stahl. He is a father to grandchildren Emily (Joseph) Morrison, Noah Santoyo and Hanah Leon, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son Eric; daughter Dawn; and granddaughter Gabriella.
John graduated from Elkhart High School and served in the Army for two years before being honorably discharged. John worked for Conrail for 40 years, where he later retired. He was a long-time member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was an advocate for the orphans, widows and those in need. He truly was the hands and feet of Jesus.
John loved being outdoors, tubing down Christiana Creek, seeing sunsets and long drives.
John was staying at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and previously lived at Williamsburg on the Lake.
Please come celebrate John's life with his family 2 to 5 p.m Monday, Nov. 28, at Billings Funeral Home. Robbie Trimmer will officiate. Feel free to wear casual attire and bright colors in celebration of John's life. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and DAV No. 19.
The families preferred memorials are to Compassion International or IFCJ.
