Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., and from 9:30 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral Mass Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St. A parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. Phil DeVolder will officiate the funeral Thursday, and DAV Chapter 19 will present military honors at the burial Thursday at St. Vincent Cemetery.
Mr. Rossi was born in Elkhart on Oct. 20, 1924, to Angelo and Angelina (Finnute) Rossi. He married Frances M. Milanese. She preceded him in death. On Feb. 5, 1991, he married Dolores E. Collins in Panama City, Fla. She survives in Elkhart.
Survivors also include a daughter, Cynthia Ann (Dale) Shipley-White of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, Dennis (Carolyn) Collins of Kimberly, Mo., and Daryl (Alicia) Collins of Delaware, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Debra Collins of Elkhart; two grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Kiebel and Mary Foster of Elkhart and Edith (Edward) Gardlik of Butler, Ind.; and a brother, Angelo (Millie) Rossi Jr. of Elkhart.
Mr. Rossi worked 35 years for Adams & Westlake Co., retiring in 1985. He had been the president of the UAW Local 1367 there.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a 13-year board member at Elkhart General Hospital.
Mr. Rossi was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 563rd field artillery battalion on Rhineland and Central Europe. He received several military ribbons, two Bronze Stars and the World War II victory medal.
