ELKHART — John D. Pressler Sr., 87, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, at Riverside Village in Elkhart.
He was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Elkhart, to Charles A. and Cleo D. (Schick) Pressler.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip Pressler of Elkhart and Ransom (Linda) Pressler of Goshen; two brothers, Thurman (Ida) Pressler of Elkhart and Paul (Grace) Pressler of Wakarusa; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Pressler, one son John D. Pressler, Jr. and two brothers, Charles and Gerald Pressler.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.
John was employed as a switchman with the Norfolk Southern Railway for more than 43 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for many years.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. celebration of life service on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Hugh Page will officiate. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of John.
