INDIANAPOLIS -- John Wesley "Ike" Norwood III, 35, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Elkhart, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, in Indianapolis.


John was born to the union of John and Brenda (Mason) Norwood Jr. on Dec. 2, 1974, in Elkhart. He married Hattie Therisa Randle on May 4, 2004, in Indianapolis.


He is survived by his wife, Hattie Therisa Norwood of Indianapolis; a daughter, McKenna Norwood of Elkhart; three stepchildren, Latanza, William and Niashja Howell, all of Indianapolis; and parents John and Brenda Norwood Jr. of Elkhart. Also surviving are two sisters, Kutrina (Walter) Butler of Elkhart and Sendney (Vance) Fonville of Indianapolis; and his brothers, Arieck (Tiffany) Mason of South Bend and Antoine Armstrong of Chicago. A host of nieces and nephews survive as well.


John was preceded in death by his grandparents, John W. and Iverlee Norwood Sr., and great-grandparents Tim and Sendney Mason.


Friends may call one hour prior to the noon Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, funeral service at Community Missionary Baptist Church, 228 Chapman Ave., Elkhart. The Rev. Lafate Owens will officiate, with entombment to follow at the Memories Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery.


John was a system operator for Butler MacDonald Inc. in Indianapolis for the past 21/2 years. He also served the community for 10 years by helping disabled adults. John was a 1993 graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School and attended Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill., for 21/2 years.


John was a member and was baptized as a youth at Community Missionary Baptist Church in Elkhart and had been attending Living Word Fellowship in Indianapolis. John enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and football, and spending time with his family and friends.
