ELKHART — John Raymond McIntyre Jr., 78, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 31, 2012, at Golden Living Center.
He was born May 14, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa, to the late John R. Sr. and Ina (Hobson) McIntyre. He married the former Marilyn Jo. Roberts, on Dec. 27, 1952, in Keokuk, Iowa.
Surviving are his wife of almost 60 years, Marilyn J. McIntyre of Elkhart; son Mel A. (Dottie) McIntyre of Kuttawa, Ky.; two daughters, Jodi (Dave) Taylor of Wakarusa and Toni (Timothy) Hoerr of Champaign, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and son-in-law Matt Todd of Peoria, Ill.
A daughter, Kimberly Todd; brother Donald McIntyre; and a granddaughter, Lesli Taylor, preceded him in death.
John graduated in 1952 from Keokuk High School. He formerly worked for DuPont in Clinton, Iowa, for many years, then in sales for the next 32 years with insurance and investments. John then worked as a security guard for five years. He was a member of Living Faith Fellowship in Elkhart.
John was an avid golfer. He loved to take vacations and travel, but most important was spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Living Faith Fellowship, 2601 Benham Ave., Elkhart. Pastor Bill Frisbie will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
The family prefers that memorials be given to the church.
