July 11, 1946 – June 2, 2024
John Lee Hemminger, 77, of Elkhart, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on July 11, 1946, in Elkhart, to the late Carlyle and Rosemary (Maust) Hemminger. On August 11, 1973, John married the love of his life, the late Katherine "Kathy" Maria Soli, in Elkhart. She passed away on February 2, 2023, after 49 wonderful years together.
John is survived by his loving stepdaughter, Suzie (Terry) Hart; loving stepson, Randy (Colleen) Voelkert; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 adoring nieces and 4 great nieces and nephews; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Hemminger.
Services for John will begin on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Billings Funeral Home, with visitation from 3 PM to 6 PM. On Saturday, June 8, 2024, visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM and a funeral service to begin at 11 AM at Creekside Church of the Brethren, 60455 CR 113, Elkhart, IN 46517. John's stepson, Randy Voelkert, will officiate. Burial and graveside services will immediately follow at Hepton Union Cemetery in Nappanee.
John received a biology teaching degree from Purdue University and a bachelor's degree in accounting at Indiana University South Bend. He most recently was employed as a business accountant for Janco Engineered Products, LLC, in Mishawaka.
John was raised in the brethren church and recently found his new home with Creekside Church of the Brethren in Elkhart. He was proud of his faith and worked to live by the word each day of his life, passing on this love for generations to come.
In his spare time, John could be found spending time with family and social gatherings, watching or attending ball games, and going out for dinner with his lifelong friends. Most importantly, John adored spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren who brought him so much love and joy.
John will best be remembered as a selfless, giving, and kind soul who loved to laugh. He, along with all the love and joy he shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts he touched throughout his life.
