INDIANAPOLIS — John Collins Growcock, 68, of Westfield, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.
He was born May 28, 1943, in Elkhart to George William and Jane Lucille (Pindell) Growcock. On Aug. 24, 1963, he married Sherron A. (Gyori) Growcock in South Bend. She survives at home.
Other survivors include three children, Julie (Gabriel) Vargas of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Jeffrey (Gloria) Growcock of Brownsburg and Jennifer (James) LeMere of Middleton, Wis.; mother Jane L. Growcock of Elkhart; three brothers, G. David (Judy) Growcock of Garfield, Ark., Stephen P. (Sue Neuffer) Growcock of Elkhart and Harry R. (Erika) Growcock of Elkhart; sister-in-law Mary Beth Growcock of Mason, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Carolina I. Vargas, Emma C. Vargas and Amanda D. LeMere.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, William P. Growcock.
John was a 1961 graduate of Elkhart High School and later received a degree in business from Ball State University in 1965. John worked in the baking industry for his entire career and was employed as a VP/chief financial officer for several years prior to his retirement. John was a member of the Indiana Large Scale Railroaders and enjoyed his own backyard garden railroad. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 1 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Burial of his cremated remains will be in Rice Cemetery.
