ELKHART — John D. Beck, 78, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, in his residence.
He was born Aug. 13, 1934, in St. Cloud, Minn., to David C. and Estelle (Miller) Beck.
On Sept. 3, 1971, he married Grace L. (Austin-Tooley) Beck in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Other survivors include five daughters, Christine Beck of Augusta, Ga., Debra Tooley of Marseille, France, Penny (Joe) Pickering of Louisville, Ky., Kay (Arthur) Addleman of Elkhart and Amy Beck of Denver; two sons, John D. Beck Jr. of Denver and Dan Beck of Elkhart; two brothers, Gary (Jenny) Beck and Bill (Kate) Beck, both of Elkhart; and nine loving grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former spouse, Dorothy (Millin) Beck, and a brother, Bob Beck.
After graduating from high school, John served in the U.S. Army/Naval Reserves.
He later became owner and operator of Elkhart Monument Company for more than 30 years.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Nov. 11, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, in St. Vincent Cemetery in Elkhart.
