Obituary
ELKHART - Joe F. Kilburn, 81, residing in Elkhart, Indiana, passed away early Thursday April 21, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Joe was born in Atmore, Alabama on May 5, 1934 to the late Prospo and Una (Goodwin) Kilburn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Joe married Betty N. Howell on November 21, 1956 in Osceola, Arkansas. Shortly after, they moved to Elkhart, where Joe worked for his father-in-law at Howell's Sinclair until 1962. He then opened North Side Auto Parts at 2813 Cassopolis Street until 1987 when they built and moved to a new building at 140 CR 6 which housed North Side Auto Parts , CARQUEST Auto Parts and Northside Service Center. Joe retired in 2006.
Surviving is his wife of almost 60 years, Betty, daughter Pam (Bill) Loomis of Silver Lake, Mich., and a son Dan (Amber) Kilburn of Elkhart; he was PaPaw to five grandchildren, Allen (Angela) Kilburn, Joey Kilburn, Thomas Kilburn, Jesse (Erika) Loomis and Bobbie (Steve) Wenzel; and four great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599, Punta Gorda (Fla.) Elks Lodge #2606 and a charter member of the Simonton Lake Sportsman Club. He enjoyed gardening, and had planted the beautiful patch of sunflowers on CR 6, which many enjoyed for years. He also like to hunt and fish in his younger years.
Visitation for family and friends will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart, where services celebrating Joe's life will begin at 3:00 p.m. with 1 hour visitation prior on Monday, April 25, 2016, Pastor Ed Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at Adamsville Cemetery.
