ELKHART — Joantoinette Gamblesmith, 65, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, April 29, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 24, 1948, in St. Louis to the late Joseph and Sophie (Gamble) Buckner.
She later married James N. Smart Sr.
He preceded her in death along with a son, Robert Moton, and a brother, Michael Buckner.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lottie Smart, Sharon Smart, Debbie Shorter and Sheila Smith, all of Elkhart; sons James Norman Smart Jr. of Toledo, Ohio, and Thurman Gamble, Willie Holmes and Johnny Holmes, all of Elkhart; and sisters Linda Davis, Carolyn Deanes, Janet Carter and Eileen Buckner. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Belinda and Sharhonda Mackey and Brittany, Sharminique and Thamario Smart, all of Elkhart.
The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, funeral service at Unique Outreach Ministry, 2649 Morton Ave., Elkhart. Pastor Cory Brown will officiate, and cremation will follow services at Altera Cremation Services.
Joantoinette worked several years as a supervisor at Excel Industries of Elkhart.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, has been entrusted with arrangements.
