Obituary

James “Jimbo” Howard Richter, 60, of Elkhart, is with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Jimbo was born on October 1, 1965 in Elkhart to Lloyd Richter and Vivian (Hermanette) Winegardener. He married the love of his life, Jill (Conley) Richter on June 29, 2002 in Elkhart.

He is preceded in death by his, father Lloyd Richter daughter, Annabelle Richter and brother, Frankie Richter.

Jimbo is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jill Richter of Elkhart; sons, Matt (Elizabeth) Copsey of Goshen and Adam Copsey of Goshen; grand daughters, Haylee, Jenna, Briana, Arielle, Ayvah and Gianna; mother, Vivian Winegardener; sisters, Missy Richter of Battle Creek, MI, Tina Richter and Marjorie Richter; and his furry companion, Phoebe as well as many friendships from his childhood and beyond.

James “Jimbo” worked for many years in the RV industry as a skilled painter, most recently retiring from Carrera Custom Paints in Elkhart. Earlier in his career, he was employed for a time at Monaco Coach, where he continued to refine his craft.

Jimbo accepted Jesus into his life and lived out his Christian faith with a servant’s heart. His quiet strength, generosity, and willingness to help others were evident in the way he lived each day.

An avid outdoorsman, Jimbo found joy in camping, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved hosting deer and trout camps in the area, creating lasting traditions and memories with family and friends. During the warmer months, he enjoyed cruising on his Harley motorcycle and spending time working on his beloved 1962 Chevy Nova. His tattoos told stories he wore with pride, each one reflecting a chapter of his life.

Jimbo also had a deep appreciation for good music, good food, and good company. He was always on the hunt for a great meal and took particular pleasure in grilling and gathering with those he loved.

Known for his big personality, infectious smile, and unmistakable laugh that could fill a room, Jimbo lived life boldly and fully. Above all, he was a devoted family man who adored his wife and granddaughters. Some of his most treasured moments were the quiet ones—sitting on the patio with his beloved wife, Jill, simply enjoying time together.

A Celebration of Jimbo’s Life Dinner for Jimbo will be on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the American Legion in Edwardsburg, MI.

Times will be posted on facebook later.
