Jerry G. Smith III, 69, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Center for Hospice Care – Raclin House.

Jerry was born in Elkhart on December 13, 1952 to the late Jerry Smith, Jr. and Irene Margaret (Gibbons) Smith. He is preceded in death by his son, Sean Michael Smith and sister, Mary Shawn Smith.

Jerry is survived by his children, Jerry G. (Cindy) Smith IV of Carmel, IN, Erin Smith of Denver, CO and Ryan (Erin Roche) Smith; brother, Jeffrey (Janet) Smith of Elkhart; sister, Pam Tallman of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren, Jerrod, Jacob, Ethan and Lyla; nieces and nephew, Nita, Karen and Aaron.

Jerry was a proud graduate of Concord High School, Class of 1971. He was a machinist with Norfolk and Southern Conrail for many years. In his spare time, Jerry was a civil war re-enactor with the 19th Indiana Irish Brigade. He also dressed up as the Concord Minute Man and Santa Claus at Martins. Jerry was an avid Notre Dame football fan and was an usher for 30 years.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart is assisting the family.
